Safety toes and metatarsal guards

Safety Toes

We offer three different safety toe caps: steel, alloy, and non-metallic (NMT) toe caps. All three varieties offer the same safety performance in that they have all passed the testing standard called ASTM F2413-05 M I/75 C/75 EH. The EH at the end of the standard stands for electrical hazard. All of our safety toe styles are manufactured with non-conductive, electrical-shock-resistant soles and heels. The varieties:

  • Steel toe caps are the original, tried and true option.
  • An alloy toe is one made from a variety of elements which are primarily Silicon, Iron, Copper, Manganese, Magnesium, Chromium, Zinc and Titanium. It is lighter than steel.
  • NMT (non-metallic toe) boots, also called composite toe, don't conduct heat or cold to the foot. These will also pass through a metal detector. But keep in mind that you might have a steel shank or eyelets in your boot, which would not.

Metatarsal guards

Meta stands for metatarsal. If you see Meta in a product name it means that it contains a metatarsal guard. A metatarsal guard provides protection to the foot by acting as a barrier from impact and crushing. They are typically made from aluminum, steel, plastic, or fiber. Ours are built into the boots (in the top of your foot area) but they can also be purchased as a removable piece.
